I was asked by the EYE Filmmuseum in Amsterdam use their great archive to create a new artwork. Interested in the colonial history of the Netherlands I started looking for film footage about the independence war of Indonesia, which we still call 'politionele acties' (police actions). I tried to find footage that told the story from the Indonesian side, but only found this one propaganda-film with the the national song of an independent Indonesia.
To make this video suitable again for my Dutch audience I censored this video; I bleeped out the word Indonesia (the Dutch colony was called the Dutch Indies), and blocked the images of the Indonesian flag and its politicians.
